Christmas Lunches and Motherly Adventures

24.12.22

As usual I left gift wrapping to the last minute and wrapped them all at midnight.

25.12.22

A very hot but super lovely lunch with the fam that had an immense spread of different delicious delights contributed by everyone (I made honey joys as per usual). We played some sort of ball smacking game (we overestimated our mental capabilities with how complicated we tried to make it) before Mrs Claus (aka my aunt) made an appearance to give out the prezzies.

26.12.22

Lo and behold the mother came to town, just in time for boxing day sales. We spent a sweltering afternoon in amongst the crowds doing our part to contribute to the economy 😒. We had a pretty good haul if I do say so myself.

27.12.22

It was way too hot to do anything so we stayed inside the whole day and popped out for a quick dinner in North Adelaide.

28.12.22

We started our morning at Grange beach where we saw dogs a plenty roaming the boardwalk. We then ventured out to Port Adelaide where unfortunately the yarn shop we wanted to visit was closed (probably a blessing in disguise... for our wallets anyway). We moseyed around before heading home for a home cooked dinner.

29.12.22

I had to treat my mum to a sports massage by Maria at Orafit, before venturing to Habourtown to hunt for a gift for her best friend. We then drove up to Barossa Valley to pay a visit to Langmeil (mum's favourite winery), and other wineries for more presents. We ended the day with the best corn ribs in the world and amazing gin at Three Little Birds Distillery in Mile End.

I had the brilliant idea of going for a hike at Mark Oliphant Conservation Park (note the sarcasm) which started the trail uphill... After the leisurely stroll we took the long way through the hills to Handorf to uphold our tradition of visiting Beerenberg every time she comes to the land down under.

We ended the night with a really nice dinner at Golden Boy, a restaurant cum bar that gives their own take on asian favourites. They have the best, and I mean best, Soft Shell Crab to exist. And they served my mum's favourite drink – the Lychee Martini – so that was a win.

31.12.22

The day to end all days. To be completely honest, it wasn't my favourite day. A fair amount of things went wrong for me, but that doesn't mean it was entirely horrible. My good friend Logan and their partner Lucy came by and we had a really nice time with wine and (the best) hummus, talking shit and just enjoying each other's company. I watched the fireworks at midnight and got rained upon by ash. We even scored some balloons from a restaurant we passed by who were giving them out by the truckload.

I was happy to say goodbye to 2022. It was the year of change and challenges that both hurt me and helped me grow. I learned more about myself, as I have done every year, and will continue to do so with every dung pile and opportunity thrown at me. Thank you 2022, but good riddance.
